Week 5+6: 5 Master Edits
Shot One: Contrast
This shot shows contrast between an ambiguous, hardworking student who is spending her free time doing homework and a delinquent who is skipping class to wander the hallways.
Shot Two: Parallelism
This shot shows audio parallelism between a disappointed student and the same student hours prior. The student in the first shot is saying “Oh shoot” right as it cuts off and the scene jumps back in time to the student hours prior telling the camera to “shhh” because they are studying for the test that they later fail.
Shot Three: Symbolism
This represents symbolism, as the red light symbolizes “stop” and the next scene is of a reckless driver facing the consequences of her actions. Because she did not stop her reckless driving, she ended up in a car accident.
Shot Four: Simultaneity
The shot depicts one person walking towards a destination, then cuts to a different person also walking to a destination. It isn’t until the second cut that the viewer realizes that they are walking to the same destination at the same time and meeting up with each other
Shot Five: Leitmotif
This shot begins with a student and her friend late to school, deciding to skip out on first period and hang out in the courtyard instead, since they were already late to school. The scene then cuts to a teacher, noticing them out in the halls and walking towards them to discipline them for skipping. The suspenseful music only plays when we are introduced to the teacher to show that the teachers presence will lead to something dramatic/important (the students getting in trouble).
